We’re writing to provide you with some information about our work to upgrade the local gas supply network in Hoo, Rochester. Our £163,000 project involves the replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area. Our contractor WCB Contractors, will undertake this work on our behalf.
In consultation with Medway Council, we will start work on Wednesday 3 January. During our 14-week project, we’ll be progressing through White House Close, Everest Drive, Armytage Close, Church Street, Brookside and a small section of Main Road. We may need to restrict some on-street parking around our work area in these roads to give us space to safely manoeuvre our equipment. There will also be an alleyway closure between Brookside and Church Street.
As part of this project, we’ll be upgrading a section of our gas main in Church Road between Main Road and Vicarage Road. We may need to install temporary traffic lights in Church Road at these junctions to keep everyone safe around our site. However, we’ll have advance warning signs in place in Church Road with more details before we start this phase.
All businesses in the local area will remain open as usual. We do have a compensation scheme in place for local businesses which suffer a genuine loss of trade because of our work. Packs are available from our website, sgn.co.uk, via the Publications section.
I understand that roadworks can be frustrating. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Hoo residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
