Medway is on a fast-paced and exciting phase of regeneration and growth and we’re looking for someone to help us put Medway on the map. The landscape of Medway is being transformed by multi million pound investment projects and, with an economy worth £4.8 bn, we are one of the fastest growing areas in the south east and as an area are becoming increasingly important to the regional and national economy. Our vision is for Medway, by 2035, to become the most successful area of economic regeneration in the South East. Twenty years from now we will be a leading waterfront university city of 330,000 people celebrated for its revitalised urban centres, riverfront developments and natural and historic assets.

Working to the recently set up Medway Place Board, with responsibility for the Medway Champions Programme, you will lead the local stakeholder engagement and delivery programme. You will build relationships with local stakeholders to gain their “buy-in” to the Medway Story; develop and deliver a Medway Place Plan in conjunction with the Place Board and deliver a marketing plan to raise the profile of Medway as a great place to live, work, learn and visit.

We are seeking an individual with experience of planning and managing strategic place marketing and communications, an understanding of the commercial and business environment in Medway and the ability to plan and deliver high profile events.

A history of working at a senior level with major public and private sector organisations will be augmented by experience of project management and evidence of the ability to secure financial resources to support and sustain a project.

Medway is a unitary authority in the South East of England, made up of the towns of Strood, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and Rainham and more rural areas, including the Hoo Peninsula.

Situated in the South-East of England, the area has plenty of green spaces, excellent facilities and easy access to the national motorway and rail networks, facilitating superb transport links to London.

As a Unitary Authority, we provide all local Government services for a quarter of a million people, looking after education, environment, social care, housing, planning, business and much more – everything from frontline services such as rubbish collection and events like the Dickens Festival to work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure services in Medway run smoothly and cost effectively.

Working at Medway Council means that you get to be part of this journey working alongside talented, professional colleagues to drive forward change to transform the lives of our residents and the communities they live in.

This is an initial one year post with the opportunity for it to transfer to the Place Board in due course with the potential for an extension subject to success.
