Review of Business Red Tape Published

A review of the steps taken by Government during the past year to reduce the regulatory burden on business by a total of £10 billion over the course of this Parliament has been published by the independent Regulatory Policy Committee.

The review covered actions taken by more than 80 independent regulators in the UK and found that the system of measurement of the cost of regulation does not reflect the true effect on business and society.

The introduction of the National Living Wage and the increase in National Minimum Wage rates, which were two of the largest regulatory costs to business that together cost around £1.5 billion over the past year, were not included in the Government’s Business Impact Target.
