Kent families are being encouraged to get active and sign up for The Mason Mile at Mote Park, Maidstone on Saturday 21 October.

This free mile park run is being organised by local entrepreneur Stephen Mason, founder of The Mason Foundation, to inspire local families and show the benefits that exercise can bring to leading a healthier lifestyle. The event is being sponsored by Golding Vision, the community arm of Kent Housing Association Golding Homes.

The Mason Mile is a fully inclusive event which is open to people of all ages and abilities, but with a particular focus on children under 16 and those with a physical or mental disability. The course has also been designed to be wheelchair friendly. Similar events have been held across the county including Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells which have attracted hundreds of participants.

As a thalidomide sufferer with acute dyslexia, Stephen is aware of the challenges that people with disadvantages have to overcome on a daily basis, and is passionate about helping people make a positive difference to their lives. He said: “We believe that it is possible for everyone to be able to walk and run a mile and we are keen to use our skills and resources to encourage families and young people to come together to have fun, get active and achieve their best in a friendly and supportive environment.”

Caroline McBride, Head of Community Development at Golding Homes, said: “Golding Vision is proud to be sponsoring this event and we are really looking forward to the day.

You don’t have to be a runner to get involved and we hope the event will inspire people take up more exercise as part of a journey towards a healthier lifestyle.”

Children under 16 who complete the mile challenge will receive a wristband and a small cash prize which can be given back to charity. For those participants who bring along a pet will see their cash prize boosted. Families can sign up for free to by visiting The Mason Mile website at
